Welcome to Hommert Central Nature Photography

This website is dedicated to birds found in the ABA Region of North America, which is essentially North America north of Mexico plus Hawaii. Specifically, the area encompassed is the 49 continental United States, Hawaii, Canada, Greenland, the French islands of St. Pierre et Miquelon, and adjacent waters to a distance of 200 miles from land or half the distance to a neighboring country, whichever is less. Excluded by these boundaries are Bermuda and the Bahamas.

My goal is to photograph all birds that have been recorded in that Region (a goal which I acknowledge I will never achieve).  As a result, some of these images are what I call "doc shots" (i.e., poor quality but good enough to identify the bird). In addition, some of the birds featured here are found in the ABA Region but the photos have been taken outside of the region.

As of August 7, 2019, I have photographed 655 species.  Species added is Agust 2019 are: Little Stint (doc shot). Species added in February 2019 are: Little Gull. Species added in September 2018 are: Black-footed Albatross, Black-vented Shearwater, Buller's Shearwater, Heermann's Gull, Manx Shearwater, Pink-footed Shearwater, Pomarine Jaeger, Rhinoceros Auklet, Short-tailed Shearwater, Sooty Shearwater, Surfbird and Tricolored Blackbird. Species added in August/September 2018 are: Common Moorhen, Common Redshank. Eurasian Jackdaw, Eurasian Oystercatcher, Great Skua, Hooded Crow, Northern Fulmar, Northern Wheatear, Parasitic Jaeger and Redwing. Species added in June 2018 are: King Rail. Species added in February 2018 are: Sharp-tailed Grouse. Species added in January 2018 are: Boreal Owl, Northern Goshawk (doc shot), Northern Hawk-Owl and Pine Grosbeak. Species added in December 2017 are: Barnacle Goose, Black-legged Kittiwake, Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Eurasian Blue Tit, Great Tit, Greater Flamingo, Lesser Flamingo, Rosy-billed Pochard and Sacred Ibis. Please come back often as this site will be updated with new images from time to time.

To search for an image of a bird, type its name in "Search Form" to the right (e.g., American Avocet).  This will take you to the gallery.  Or you can also choose a gallery under "Galleries" in the menu bar on top (e.g., Avocets).   I hope you enjoy.
