Welcome to Hommert Central Nature Photography

This website is dedicated to birds found in the ABA Region of North America, which is essentially North Amrica north of Mexico. Specifically, the area encompassed is the 49 continental United States, Hawaii, Canada, Greenland, the French islands of St. Pierre et Miquelon, and adjacent waters to a distance of 200 miles from land or half the distance to a neighboring country, whichever is less. Excluded by these boundaries are Bermuda and the Bahamas.

My goal is to photograph all birds that have been recorded in that Region (a goal which I acknowledge I will never achieve).  As a result, some of these images are what I call "doc shots" (i.e., poor quality but good enough to identify the bird). In addition, some of the birds featured here are found in the ABA Region but the photos have been taken outside of the region.

As of December 1, 2017, I have photographed 618 species.  Species added in December 2017 are: Black-legged Kittiwake. Species added in September 2017 are:Belcher's Gull, Chilean Flamingo, Elegant Tern, Gray-hooded Gull, Kelp Gull and Large-billed Tern. Species added in July 2017 are: Black-capped Vireo and Cave Swallow. Species added in July 2017 are: Gray Heron (doc shot), Little Egret, White Wagtail and Yellow-legged Gull. Species added in August 2017 are: Scaly-breasted Munia (captive). Species added in June 2017 are: Baird's Sparrow, Chestnut-collared Longspur, Clay-colored Sparrow, Great Gray Owl and Sprague's Pipit (doc shot). Species added in April 2017 are: King Eider (captive). Species added in March 2017 are: Brant, Harlequin Duck, Purple Sandpiper and Red-throated Loon. Species added in February 2017 are: Bananaquit, Bare-throated Tiger-Heron, Brown Jay, Common Black-Hawk, Double-toothed Kite (doc shot), Gray-breasted Martin (doc shot), Groove-billed Ani, Mangrove Swallow, Mexican Violetear, Piratic Flycatcher, Red-billed Pigeon, Ruddy Ground-Dove, Whimbrel, White-collared Seedeater, White-collared Swift (doc shot), Yellow-green Vireo and Yellow-naped Parrot (doc shot). Please come back often as this site will be updated with new images from time to time.

To search for an image of a bird, type its name in "Search Form" to the right (e.g., American Avocet).  This will take you to the gallery.  Or you can also choose a gallery under "Galleries" in the menu bar on top (e.g., Avocets).   I hope you enjoy.
